mutualism

This is a picture of a tree and a poison ivy vine found in my very own backyard. These two organisms have a relationship called mutualism. Mutualism is a type of symbiotic relationship between two species of organisms in which both benefit. The tree benefits by getting protection from the poison ivy. The poison ivy would benefit because it can grow all the way up the tree and reach the top where it will be able to get more sunlight. As you can see in this picture the poison ivy vine is growing up the tree so it can get the sunlight it needs to live. Therefore, this is a mutualistic relationship between the tree and the posion ivy vine where both organisms benefit.

Biotic Limiting Factors

This tree is an example of a biotic limiting factor found in our local neighborhood. A biotic limiting factor is a living or once-living feature of an ecosystem that limits a population size. This tree limits the amount of sunlight for the smaller plants lying underneath the tree. The tree limits the population of these smaller plants. Also, this tree limits food for certain animals because of the seeds that grow on it. Therefore, this tree is an example of a biotic limiting factor.
